- Wafter Rig - N Trap
Recommended for best performance - Wafter, Balanced Bait
The Wafter Rig is as straight forward as it gets but has been highly successful for many anglers.
Using a wafter instead of a normal bottom bait will allow the hook to be masked from the view of any carp as it will sit just above the hook instead of on the lakebed.
As the bait is sucked in, the heavy hook point will naturally want to face down and will be primed to prick the bottom lip when the rig is tightened to the lead.
There are many different ways to balance a bait, whether straight out of a tub or using other baits with cork or foam to allow the bait to waft freely.
Whatever your preference you can have confidence that this rig will do what's needed when you get them all important bites.
Key Rig Features & Benefits
N Trap coated braid is perfect for this rig as it's not only solid and abrasion resistant but blends in great with many lakebeds, making it very difficult to detect.
Lead Setup - Used with a lead clip setup.
Terminated - The rig will have a loop with a figure of eight knot. Solid and strong.
Anti-Tangle - The stiffer hooklink will aid in stopping tangles but adding a small pva bag will alleviate this.
Reset properties - In the event of an aborted take, the rig will slowly reset itself, ready for the next bite.
Exceptional hooking properties - The aggressive angle the hook sits at allows it to take hold almost instantly.
Tips
When using a wafter, ensure that it sits correctly by trimming it until the hook is sitting flat on the lakebed with the bait hovering just above. I always take a small tub and balance my hookbaits in that as it's quicker and easier than doing in the edge. Spending the extra few minutes will make all of the difference in catch rates.
