- SHOT on the Hook rig - 'TUNGSTEN BEADS ARE SUPPLIED'
Recommended for best performance - Balanced Bottom Baits (half boilie / half popup)
The Shot on the Hook Rig (The Norton Nailer) is an old concept that was recently seen on the Korda underwater series and highlighted just how effective it can be. Click here to see the rig mechanics > Rig Mechanics
An extremely versatile rig that can be used all year round. With excellent anti-tangle and reset properties, you can always be assured that your rig is perfectly presented and primed for a bite. Instead of a hair on the shank we've opted to use a tungsten bead as it does exactly the same job but will allow you to remove it and use the rig in a different way if necessary (with a wafter as an example) If the hair become damaged after a fight or the shot comes off (and you have no spares) it will make the rig redundant from it's original purpose. With a tungsten bead however you can just reposition it if it moved and cast the rig back into the lake. You can also re-use the bead on other rigs and also trim it if necessary.
Unlike a ronnie rig that uses a popup for best performance, the shot on the hook rig will utilise the properties of a bottom bait which will aid in presentation and hooking mechanics.
The ideal setup would be to have a short hooklink of 3-4 inches, micro rig ring swivel and an Anti Tangle Sleeve. Used with an inline setup this would be perfect but lead clips can also be used to great effect if preferred. There is also an option for a tungsten sinker that will aid with keeping everything flat but also gives you something to mold additional putty around if needed.
We have a range of boom colours from silt, clear, weed, camo fleck and bloodworm.
Whatever your preference you can have total confidence in this rig and know that it simply does not let you down when it matters most.
Key Rig Features & Benefits
All of our booms are made with 25lb Amnesia with the exception of our camo fleck which is closer to 50lb.
They're not only solid but highly abrasion resistant whilst maintaining a similar diameter to Korda Boom.
If the hooklink does happen to get kinked after fighting a fish it can be straightened without steam in just a few seconds using 2 knot pullers.
Lead Setup - Suitable for both inline and lead clip setups (select the relevant swivel)
Crimped at both ends - this adds strength and neatness over a knot.
Anti-Tangle - The boom will always kick the hook away from the lead whether cast or dropped from a boat.
Reset properties - In the event of an aborted take, the rig will reset itself, ready for the next bite.
Exceptional hooking properties - the hook will sit flat until the bait is taken and once tightened to the lead the hook point will drive into the carps bottom lip.
Tips
The hookbait that has been used to great effect is half of a bottom bait and half of a popup which will allow the hookbait to sit correctly whilst still touching the lakebed and allow the hook mechanics to work correctly.
Like any rig and hookbait, it is always best to check in the margin or in a tub on the bank to ensure your rig is going to present correctly when out in the lake.
