The Noodle Rig is a highly effective all year round rig.
The rig incorporates a long section of shrink tubing that extends the hook shank and gape by an exaggerated amount. This enables the rig to not only flip instantly but aids in the hooking which normally happens further back in the carps mouth. For instance, if there is a 20mm kicker section it means they will get hooked 20mm further back in the tougher fleshy area of the carps mouth which is exactly what you want. This will give amazing hook holds.
If you prefer to use a wafter, simply trim the bait so that it wafts just above the hook which should be laying flat on the lakebed.

Tips
When using a wafter, ensure it sits correctly by trimming the hookbait so that the hook sits flat on the lakebed and the bait hovers just above it. I always take a small tub and balance my hookbaits in that as it's quicker and easier than doing in the edge. Spending the extra few minutes will make all of the difference in catch rates.
