- Snowman Blowback Rig - Stiff uncoated Braid
Recommended for best performance - Snowman, Balanced Bottom Bait
The Snowman Blowback Rig is a highly effective all year round rig due to it's ability to use pretty much any hookbait you want.
The rig mechanics are very clever. The bait is attached to a hair that runs along the hook shank via a rig ring. This allows the hook to sit at an aggressive angle and take hold in the bottom lip or scissors when the carp tries to eject the bait. A line aligner can be added to aid in flipping the hook even quicker.
A wide range or hookbaits can be used, allowing you to mix and match colours, smells, flavours etc. You may have a preferred boilie and popup that you can now use together to create a perfect snowman.
As long as your hook is laying flat with your snowman right by the side, you can be assured that any cruising carp will find it almost impossible to ignore.
Whatever your preference you can have total confidence in this rig and know that it simply does not let you down when it matters most.
Key Rig Features & Benefits
Nash/Gardner stiff uncoated braid is perfect for this rig when accompanied with a small pva bag. This adds weight to the hook end and aids in stopping any potential tangles.
Lead Setup - Used with a lead clip setup.
Terminated - The rig will have a loop with a figure of eight knot. Solid and strong.
Anti-Tangle - The stiffer hooklink will aid in stopping tangles but adding a pva bag will alleviate this.
Reset properties - In the event of an aborted take, the rig will slowly sink back to the lakebed, ready for the next bite.
Exceptional hooking properties - The aggressive angle the hook sits at allows it to take hold almost instantly.
Tips
When using a popup you will more than likely need to add some putty to anchor the rig to the lakebed. The buoyancy of a popup will vary depending on brand and size so it's always worth testing your rig in the margin or a tub before casting out. Ideally you will want the rig to slowly fall through the water so it will sit on top of any detritus. The same goes for wafters, ensure they sit correctly and trim the hookbait so that the hook sits flat and the bait hovers just above it. I always take a small tub and balance my hookbaits in that as it's quicker and easier than doing in the edge. Spending the extra few minutes will make all of the difference in catch rates.
To stop the hookbait moving up the hair (common with pellets) and spoiling the presentation, you can use a float stop and trap the bait between it and the boilie stop.
